BEACH BUM TRAVEL NOTES
Arrival at Myrtle Beach

After another 8 hours in the van we finally arrived at the Marriott OceanWatch Resort in Myrtle Beach. The view from our ocean front balcony was awesome. Not only did we overlook the beach but the pools as well.

The start of the journey to Myrtle Beach

I took a half day off from work so we could leave at 3:00 in the afternoon. The van was packed with people and luggage. Everyone had their music of choice on their Ipods and MP3 players. So we eased out of our driveway and began what we hoped was going to be the best spring break ever.

We drove until about 11:00pm and stopped at Marriott's Fairfield Inn in Charleston, WV. Most of the drive was uneventful but the last hour or two was not much fun for me. I was the driver and I was feeling tired from sitting in the van for hours, the highway became curvy and mountainous as it began to rain. Visability was low and it was a harrowing end to the night. We all crammed into the hotel room and fell to sleep with visions of the beach in our heads.

Halfway there!

Still looking forward to a road trip to Myrtle Beach

I've changed my mind about geocaching and started thinking about beachcombing with a metal detector instead.

We are planning a trip to stay on the beach at Myrtle Beach. I'm looking forward to spending a week at the Marriot right on the beach. The trip will be in April so the weather should be pretty good. Although the ocean may be a little cool for me to go swimming. I like it pretty warm.

I'm thinking about purchasing a handheld GPS unit so I can do a little geocaching while I'm there. Working on loading up the old Ipod with my favorite surf tunes to listen to while on the long drive. I'll give my list of song for the Ipod in my next post. Speaking of the drive, I've created a map to the hotel with my favorite mapping web site which is Google Maps.
